Dare to Wonder presents: A Daily Moment of Wonder ~ 'The Magic Is YOU!'

Updated: Jan 7

Every single day offers us a chance to pause and reflect on the magic that surrounds us. But what if the true wonder we seek isn’t out there, but already inside of us? Today’s quote from 365 Days of Wonder by R.J. Palacio invites us to explore this idea deeply:

“We carry within us the wonders we seek around us.” — Sir Thomas Browne

This simple yet powerful statement challenges the common belief that answers, love, safety, joy, and inspiration come only from external sources. Instead, it reminds us that the magic we so badly long for is already innately part of who we are.

Discovering the Wonder Within

Most of us grow up learning to look outside of ourselves for guidance. We search for approval, happiness, and meaning in other people, places, or material things. This external focus can sometimes leave us feeling empty or disconnected when those sources inevitably fail to satisfy us.

The quote by Sir Thomas Browne flips this idea on its head. It suggests that the wonder we seek is not something to chase... but something to uncover inside ourselves. This means:

  • Our inner world absolutely holds untapped potential.

  • We have the ability to create true joy and meaning from within.

  • Self-discovery is the path to reconnecting with our own magic.

For me, this is the heart of my life’s purpose: helping people recover that inner wonder and magic. It’s about reminding ourselves that no matter our age or circumstances, we carry a spark inside that can light up our lives if we let it!

Why We Forget Our Inner Wonder

Life’s challenges, routines, and pressures can often dim our sense of wonder. We get caught up in responsibilities and forget to play, imagine, or simply just be curious. Play & fun are just as important as diet & exercise in keeping our body & minds healthy. Society sometimes teaches us that wonder is for children, not adults. This is wrong, and I will spend the rest of my life trying to reverse this flawed logic in as many people as possible!

Wonder is timeless. It fuels creativity, joy, freedom, fulfillment and true connection. When we lose touch with it, life can feel dull, overwhelming, or even pointless. Here are some reasons why we might forget our inner wonder:

  • Fear of judgment or fear of failure stops us from expressing ourselves freely.

  • Stress and busyness leave little room for reflection or play.

  • Cultural messages suggest that being 'serious' means growing up.

  • We are taught that if we are not "good" at something, we should no longer pursue it.

Reclaiming wonder means pushing back against all of these forces! It means giving ourselves permission to explore, dream, and find joy in all the small moments life offers us daily.

How to Find Wonder Inside Today

Wonder is not a distant treasure; it can be found inside easily with daily practice.

Take a Moment to Wonder with Me...

Before you go, take a moment to reflect on this simple question:

Where can you find wonder inside yourself today instead of outside?

Maybe it’s in a craft, a dream, a conversation with a child, a feeling, or a small act of kindness you can offer someone. The answer is personal and unique to you. The key is to look inward and trust that the wonder is already there... listen closely! Wonder sometimes whispers, especially at first!

Wonder is not a destination but a daily choice. By daring to wonder with me, you will join me on a journey of rediscovery. Remember, you carry within you the wonders you seek around you...

Let today be the day you reconnect with your inner magic!
